Volunteer

WE ARE RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS!

We believe in the value of volunteering – this place was founded on that principle. It’s our mission to help our volunteers become more employable. We’ve helped hundreds move on into paid work, so we know coming to work at INDIE really does work.

We offer work experience, training and youth work support – and this old Café is where we do it. It’s a fun place to work, it’s a supportive environment – the kind where you are allowed to make mistakes because that helps us all learn. We’ve got two programmes of support running at the moment – with both designed to help you move forward.

If you’re aged 16-25:

We exist to work with volunteers, so there is no deadline on this one! You can learn all the various roles within a dynamic Café environment, work on your customer service and learn how to Barista, how to prepare food within our busy Kitchen and / or work the bar at our lively music nights. We’ll also offer you training, and work with you on any issues you may be struggling with. We take people from all walks of life. You might be a graduate wanting to explore your specialism – and there’s scope for that. Or you may have no work experience, and complex needs – there’s scope for that too. You’ll have a dedicated Youth Worker to support you and get you up to speed as well as supporting your next steps out in the wide world. You would be expected to complete a couple of shifts per week and work with us towards your own plan for progression.

If you’re over 18 (up to any age) and have been out of work for 6 months or longer:

This one is due to start in October, so get cracking if you want to be involved! We’ve teamed up with our old buddies from LTBL Productions to deliver this programme. They’re experts in all things digital and we’re pretty good at all things employable, so we think it’s a pretty good fit. It’s a six week programme, with a commitment of about 20 hours per week, designed to help you move forward. It includes the following: Employability Training and Confidence Building Workshops, Work Experience, Multi-media training and creating a CV-Rom (A virtual CV), One to One Reviews and progression plans (but in a you-focussed, helpful way – not in a boring, paperwork heavy kind of way!)

So, if you’re interested in either of the above, all you’ve got to do is email david@cafeindiependent.org.uk and let him know which programme you’re interested in. He’ll get you signed up and you’re on the path to nirvana…
